Client: C&S Properties
Grant Aid: Durham County Council
Architect: Nappers Chartered Architects
Value: £130,000
Overview
The project involved the heritage restoration of a traditional shopfront and façade at 6 Newgate Street in Bishop Auckland. Initial discussions commenced in 2021 when the scheme included two adjoining properties. Delays in securing grant funding resulted in the second property being removed from the programme and the scope of works was revised several times over the following years.

Funding was secured in late 2023, allowing works to commence in February 2024.

Scope of works
Works focused on the careful restoration of the historic shopfront and façade in line with heritage requirements. Close coordination was maintained with the architect and client throughout the project to ensure compliance with grant conditions and conservation standards.

End result
The scheme progressed smoothly and was completed within the agreed timeframe. The building was handed back following successful delivery of the restoration works. The client expressed satisfaction with the quality of the improvements and the standard of workmanship. The refurbished premises are now ready for occupation by a new tenant.
