Project Update (November 2010)

 

Press Release in connection with 7 Ownegate in Durham

Work has started to build a New World Heritage Site Welcome Centre right in the historic heart of Durham. The listed-building, which belongs to Durham University, is at the entrance to Palace Green. It will be refurbished to provide a new glass atrium and courtyard and exhibition space on the ground floor.

The work will be finished by Easter 2011. It's a joint project between World Heritage Site partners Durham University, Durham Cathedral, Durham City Vision and Durham County Council.

Seif EI-Rashidi, World Heritage Site Co-ordinator said: "We hope to introduce visitors to Durham's rich heritage through our exhibitions and events. This will include a special programme in 2011 to mark the 25th anniversary of the inscription of the site by UNESCO."

  • Owengate, Durham - Formation of a World Heritage Centre. Major alteration works to a Listed Building (£575K)

  • St Benets RC Primary School, Ouston - Window Replacements (£70K)

  • Butterwick Hospice, Bishop Auckland - Alterations (£260K)

  • South Shields Magistrates Court - Alterations (£30K)

Project Update (September 2010)

 

Work has commenced on the conversion of a derelict historic and listed building in Durham into a World Heritage Centre. Due to our experience in restoring and working on historic buildings VEST Construction fought off strong competition to secure this prestigious project in the historic heart of Durham City. The project was commissioned by Durham University and once completed is expected to attract thousands of visitor a year.
